Description

The seductive and stunning #1 bestselling sequel to Sarah J. Maas's spellbinding A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she's now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people.

As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre's hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future-and the future of a world in turmoil.

Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas's masterful storytelling brings this second book in her dazzling, sexy, action-packed series to new heights.

A read a quote that explains this book to perfectly, I don’t know the author: “ If you asked me about ACOTAR, I’d tell you it starts slow but trust me it is worth every page. But if you ask me on a deeper level… I’d say… It is just a series, it is an experience that grips you from the inside out infiltrating your very essence, weaving itself through your veins, through your heart, your soul, until you can no longer distinguish where you end and when the story begins. This world is both breathtaking beautiful and perilously dangerous- a place where you find yourself losing track of reality because you’re so deeply submerged and its magic, it’s darkness, complexity. It isn’t just a book but a journey that devastates and exalts you in equal measure shattering you its raw intensity, breaks you apart, and then pieces you back together in ways you didn’t know you needed. This series, it claws at your thoughts, it demands to be felt, to be remembered. It’s not just a story you read, it is an experience that marks you, that stays with you, that irrevocably changes you. It isn’t something you simply finish; it’s something you survive, something you carry with you, after the final word has been read. To the stars who listen … Don’t know who wrote this but thank you. I was going through the worst breakup of my life, and when I read this, my sorrow and grief was completely gone and for that I will always hold this so very close to my heart. The most beautiful book I have read. Thank you Sarah

First, I was recommended specifically to read the second book of this series. I had to choke down ACOTAR for context, but was promised a better story to come. The beginning was a continuation of the first book at the Spring Court so I choked that down, as well. The middle of the book was mostly great. More characters are introduced, we come into a greater conflict, we are introduced to more courts, Freyre has more character growth, etc. The end where they were in conflict with the King of Hybern Court felt quick and sloppy. The romance infuriated me for many reasons, but to keep it simple and not go on a complete rampage about the romance (from both books), I believe Freyre reacted terribly to the mate situation, and the whole plot of the story came to a full stop for about 5 chapters to resolve the “situationship”. I understand all too well real world abuse and PTSD, but her reaction was definitely overdone and unjustified. Side note, Freyre was often left queasy and vomiting from trauma, but the amount it was mention left me feeling borderline queasy and annoyed, and the book opened up immediately with her vomiting. Some of the writing was not super cohesive and better editing could have done the book more justice. The end had a good hook for the third book, but I am choosing to spend my money on a series I know will be worth more of my time. Overall, I suppose if you fetishize abuse, love/hate relationships, overly long drawn out sex scenes, and vomiting then this book series is for you. 👍

I’m absolutely hooked on this series. I can’t get enough of the banter and teasing of the Night Court. I’m heartbroken with them. Laughing with them. I want to fight with them. Can’t wait to move onto the next book!
