Whenever I don't know what I am in the mood to read, I always look to Jill Shalvis and her books. They always enter and never disappoint. Such is the case with Accidentally on Purpose, the third book in her Heartbreaker Bay series. You don't have to read these books in order as each one stands alone and is connected by characters or friends. Archer and Elle are tough. Tough individuals and were a little tough for me to fall in love with at first. The way they avoided each other was somewhat annoying yet I couldn't stop turning the pages and had a difficult time putting the book down. Shalvis' writing is like that. Even if you are not instantly fond of how the characters are acting you still find yourself immersed in their lives and you just can't turn away. As the story played out my heart gave way to Archer and Elle when they both turned a corner on how they were approaching their relationship and letting their guards down a bit. Their chemistry was off the charts and they fell into a comfortable rhythm. Not every relationship is the same in real life which makes books more entertaining when you have a couple like this. Their bickering works for them. They like to push each other. They both like control. Shalvis did an excellent job with these two. The supporting characters in the story are always great and I hope we get more of Joe and Spence in future books! I also adored the tiny bit of suspense this story offered. It was perfect for Archer and Elle's story. If you are looking for a sexy, contemporary romance story, give Accidentally on Purpose a read.

The Heartbreaker Bay series by author Jill Shalvis has quickly become a favorite of mine. Jill's an ace at crafting stories that revolve around an eclectic and captivating cast of characters, a world that immediately draws the reader in and makes them feel like a part of the action. ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is Archer's and Elle's story, and I absolutely loved it. There has been something between Archer Hunt and Elle Wheaten since the night that they met 8 years ago. That something has evolved and changed over time, but it's always been there, and both Elle and Archer know it. Elle holds herself responsible for Archer throwing away his career in order to save her, and Archer feels responsible for Elle, making it his business to keep tabs on her. Stir in a lot of untapped chemistry, and you've got the recipe for one heck of an explosion. I absolutely adore Archer. He doesn't know quite what to do with Elle, but he can't stay away. And Elle, she's one heck of a totally take no prisoners chick, more than capable of taking care of herself and anyone else that comes along. The back-and-forth between them, the tension and heat, makes for some swoony exchanges, and I loved reading their interactions. Add in the awesome and quirky cast of characters that make up the rest of Elle's and Archer's circle of friends, and you've got my favorite kind of read. I really hope that Jill has more in store for us from Heartbreaker Bay, because Spence totally needs a book, as do Kylie and Elle's sister. In the meantime, though, 5 snarky, sexy, super-sleuthy stars. Read this book. Read all of these books, because they are all kinds of awesome, and I couldn't recommend them any more highly.

Elle and Archer have a relationship that's been building up to an explosion for a long time. Elle is a strong, passionate woman who's done for herself, by herself, for a long time, and doesn't need the likes of Archer looking out for her. But he can't help it - it's in his nature to help people, and he didn't give up his career for Elle for nothing. He wasn't good enough for her but couldn't stand by and watch her with anyone else. Their relationship is explosive and the dialogue really tells a great story. The reader is able to dig down into Archer and really understand what makes him tick. Once Elle is finally able to release the tight reins she has on her life, these two find a way to be together. A very well written story that is fast paced and had me turning the pages quickly.
  • ARCHER! He's my favorite.

Accidentally on Purpose is the third book in the Heartbreaker Bay series and it's quickly become one of my favorite! These characters have taken up residence in my heart with their sarcasm, wit and beauty. They are truly a family and I want to be a part of it! I've been waiting for Archer and Elle's story. I knew it was going to be explosive and it didn't disappoint! Archer and Elle have a past and we didn't know the details until know. When Archer came back into Elle's life a year ago, the feelings she had for him all those years ago came screaming back. She's always had a thing for him, but now they just argue and annoy each other. A lot. It's their foreplay. And it's off the charts hot. Archer is insanely attracted to Elle, but he keeps his feeling hidden like he keeps everything in his life. Showing emotion is a weakness. But he's quickly learning that Elle is his weakness. When a funny game of truth and dare turns steamy, Elle and Archer are forced to reevaluate their relationship. Archer wants all in, but Elle's reluctant to trust him. Can Archer show Elle they are meant to be together? Will Elle's past come back and remind her she's not worthy of him? I loved this story! Archer is so funny, sexy, hot and extra hot in his cargoes and work gear. Oh my. Elle is beautiful, smart, strong and can scare grown men with one look. I loved that Archer wanted Elle and went after her. Hard. You know that author when you pick up one of their books you just know you are going to get sucked in and not want to put it down. You're going to laugh, cried, sigh, swoon and laugh more. Jill is one of those authors for me! I can't wait to see who's next. "Guys think about sex every five seconds." "Is that true?" "I don't know you tell me." "I mean, I think about it a lot, but I also think of other things." "Like?" "You." "In what way?" "Naked." "Always?" "Depends," he said. "On…?" "On if I'm hungry or not." "Are you angry? Because we do some of our best naked work when you're angry."

Ellie had a rough life growing up. Now 11 years later she has got her life on track with a great job she loves, online classes to one day become an accountant, and a hard shell around her to keep everyone out. Archer Hunt saves Ellie when she was 16 years old and the connection he felt for her had him watching her over the past 11 years. Making sure he could do whatever he could for her without her knowledge. With their close group of friends, Ellie and Archer are forced together more. Sparks are flying between these two and reading how both of these two learned to open themselves up and let someone in warned my heart. In life you need someone you can count on to have not only your back but know they have yours too. Can't wait for the next book!!

Elle and Archer – the two literally have sparks flying at every encounter. Like striking two flints, it’s immovable force (Archer) meets impenetrable object (Elle). Stubborn and driven, these two are the caretakers of the group. Elle with a past that doesn’t allow her to open or accept anyone easily has allowed the people of the Pacific Pier building to become her friends, and her responsibility. Archer, former cop and now heading a security firm is ALWAYS watching out for everyone he knows, and that includes Elle, after his first encounter with her some eleven years prior. Getting to know Elle has been an experience. She had a crappy childhood: absent father, grifter mother and an older sister that she, for years, looked out for. Rescued from a dangerous, if not foolhardy, situation when she was 16, Archer abandoned the orders of his superior officers to spirit her away from danger and potential arrest. She has always felt indebted to Archer, a feeling she despises as in her newly created life she is independent, in control, trustworthy, competent and unaccountable to no one. Archer’s rescue of Elle when she was a 16 year old child was the tipping point for him, showing him that he would always follow his own moral code and protect those who needed it, even as those decisions may not align with his superior officers in the police. He left the police department after rescuing Elle, to set up his own very successful and in demand security firm. E’s never lost sight of her though, attracted to her, amazed by her, and worrying for her. Now both are adults, they are constantly in contact at the building, and the sparks have them both discombobulated. Archer can’t get Elle out of his mind, and can’t actually connect to his actual feelings to not grunt, order and especially romance her. Elle can’t get past their very first encounter, and slowly is discovering his involvement in her life ever since that night. She’s feeling like his obligation, no matter how strong the pull between them, or her girly parts dancing the lambada every time she sees or thinks of him. Oh so darn fun – these two can’t get out of their own way to see what’s best for them, even if everyone, including ALL their friends and his very alpha set of employees are reading it like a neon billboard. Slowly both of them reveal their fears, and with plenty of back and forth, a bit of danger, a farting dog (one too many breakfast sandwiches) and a gunshot wound, Archer finally learns to speak for what he wants, in ways that Elle can hear. Plenty of advice (reluctant and otherwise) from the friends who know their match is perfection, their story comes full circle with plenty of smiles, steam and the perfect happy ending. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is book #3, in the Heartbreaker Bay series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding and enjoyment, I recommend reading this great series in order. Elle & Archer already have a pain filled past, before the fact they work together. If she avoids him, well who can blame a girl? Hardest part about all of it is she wants to see him everyday. Archer just wants Elle to stay put and let him protect her for once. Can he talk her into letting him wear the pants in this relationship? He just really wants to hold her for like ever. If you have never had the feels before, this book has brought it - Game On! I loved how the author takes you through their relationship and churns out a love story that is practically epic. So endearing, and the man is completely charming. These characters just make you feel it all. ***This ARC copy was given in exchange for an honest review only.
  • Great group of friends!

With another match up of the Heartbreaker Bay gang, Jill Shalvis brings us Elle's story! The connection between her and Archer is not only sexy as sin, but it's also sweet and comforting. I really enjoy this group of friends. They are always there for one another, and are always good for a few laughs as we see their interactions. Elle Wheaten owes Archer Hunt a lot. She came from a hard life, and when he chose to give up so much in order to rescue her from it, she took on the additional burden of knowing how much she had cost him. It doesn't stop her from constantly wanting him, but it makes her understand why he can't possibly want her back. Considering the circumstances when they met, Archer feels like his desire for Elle is wrong. He's worked hard to show indifference to her all of these years, but when he sees her starting to want more in her life, it drives him crazy to see her possibly reach for it with someone else! Will these two stubborn people be able to put aside their pride long enough to see that the other loves them too?

The two I've been waiting for, Elle and Archer, since the beginning of the Heartbreaker Bay series! We finally learn about their past and the reasons why they seem to hate each other. I love the interactions with the other characters and the sense of family you get with each subsequent book. Archer has such a strong personality that it's awesome when you see Elle's comebacks hit him where it hurts. This was another wonderful, fun, sexy story from Jill Shalvis. You can't miss.
