Deborah Jenkins pulls her coat around her for the short walk home in the pouring rain. But she never makes it home that night. And she is never seen again…

Four years later, an abandoned baby girl is found wrapped in dirty rags on a doorstep. An anonymous phone call urges the police to run a DNA test on the baby. But nobody is prepared for the results.

The newborn belongs to Deborah. She’s still alive...

THE GRIPPING THRILLER EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT – if you like Lisa Gardner, Robert Bryndza or Clare Mackintosh, you will absolutely love this. A completely unputdownable page-turner with an ending that will blow your mind.

**Each Gina Harte book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**

  • Monotonous, repetitive and underwhelming ending

I am a lover of true crime, but it is clear to me that the author does not understand how crimes are solved. Number one, the author introduced so many characters and didn’t even explain where they came from or who they were. The author simply just stated names, and I found myself reviewing previous pages to see who these people were, and still at the end of the book, I do not know who they are or how they were relevant. Number two, If there is an abandoned baby found and they can do a DNA test to find who the mother is, they can definitely run another DNA test to see if the father is in system. They didn’t even do that and the main character, which is the detective, didn’t even end up, cracking the case after four years. It was a random stranger who cracked the case. There were so many points at which I thought the author was giving us some foreshadowing, but in fact those elements had absolutely nothing to do with the plot, especially illness between the detectives. Why was that even a part of the story? The person who committed the crime was such an irrelevant character, and his fascination with Debbie made absolutely no sense. There was no background on him. None of the characters are truly likable, and I felt like I was reading the same chapter over and over again. Additionally, there were spelling errors and many grammatical mistakes. It was such a tedious read, but I wanted to know what happened in the end and was beyond dissatisfied. I’m not quite sure how this book made it through the editing process and who thought that should be published..

I love this book and I’m not really into this kind of genre but it was really good!

The story itself was good, a bit all over the place with the dialogue. What I found most frustrating was the editing. So many grammatical errors. Words misspelled or not used correctly. It was quite disappointing.

The first book I read from the author, enjoyed the story, kept me up many nights. Just one more chapter I thought.

A really good read that kept it interesting. I think incorporating the detectives past in the story was a good touch. I just wish the ending didn’t drag when it came to what happened to Deborah. It took too long to get to what happened and then it just ended quickly. Overall, still worth the read.
