“Suspenseful . . . builds to a satisfying, if violent,
conclusion . . .”
Publishers Weekly

In a remote Alaskan village, Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter searches for a stone-cold killer amid a hotbed of corruption and long-buried secrets . . .

It’s hunting season in Stone Cross, Alaska—but Arliss Cutter has come here for a very different game. A federal judge is receiving death threats and refuses protection. Cutter and his deputy Lola Teariki have been assigned to keep him safe. But no one is ever really safe in a place like this. And no one is above suspicion . . .

When Cutter and Lola arrive, the village is already gripped with fear. A young couple has disappeared from their fishing lodge. Their handyman has been found dead next to a crude drawing of a mysterious symbol. With the judge’s life still at risk, and two people still missing, navigating the blood-bound traditions of this close-knit community won’t be easy. When the secrets come out, the deadly hunt is on . . .

“A  spectacular crime story here . . . well worth hunting for it.”

Poor copy editing is frequently apparent in Cameron’s work and reduces its appeal.

4 Stars. The first in the series was good but not Jericho Quinn good. This one definitely was. I’m happy because I really enjoy Cameron. This one really took off. The characters, story, everything. I even got teary eyed at the end. Now I’m truly excited about this Arliss Cutter series. You could actually feel the cold of an Alaskan blizzard. Definitely looking forward to the next one, and it won’t take nearly as long to get to it.

Great continuation from the 1st book, all occurring in the wilds of Alaska bush country. Quite a sad ending but very appropriate for the story and the characters.
  • Fine action, characters, excess detail. Moving.

Very well written, fast-moving action scenes. Believable “different” characters - both women and men. Sometimes too many details stall forward movement of the story line. In the end, moving.

Great read. Loved the details of life in the bush country with plenty of believable action.

Spent a year at a radar site in Akaka’s interior in the early 70s. Descriptions had me reliving those days.

I didn’t love this story quite as much as the last. In places I felt like it dragged a bit and I wish the villains side was more fleshed out
