INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“The beach-read master hooks us again."—People

Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2023 by BuzzFeed ∙ Paste Magazine ∙ Elle Southern Living ∙ SheReads Culturess ∙ Medium ∙ Her Campus Readers Digest ∙ Zibby Mag and more!

A couple who broke up months ago pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.

They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blissful week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.

Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

I have read all of Emily‘s books, and I put off reading this one for a little while because there were some negative reviews. Now I’m mad at myself for waiting so long! Please ignore the negative review and give this one a shot. I promise you won’t be disappointed. This is probably one of my top 2 from her.
  • Simple story

Nice, simple story. I do find the writing to be absent of depth but full of adjectives instead. Not memorable, but not regrettable.
  • Beach read:)))

This book was a lovely beach read. I very much enjoyed all of the characters and seeing how each development is intertwined into the plot. I LOVED the theme of finding oneself and what one wants for them and their happiness despite the reactions and exptectations of others. I very much loved this book. Give it a read. 10/10

The story just flows and pulls you in, the characters are well thought-out and each one of them reminds me of people in my own inner circle. Definitely recommend.
  • “Funny Story” is much better

I read Funny Story and loved it! So I decided to read this one. It was good enough, but I personally don’t enjoy storylines that depend on a plot device of the characters not communicating well as their major conflict. The ENTIRE book makes me want to yell at them to PLEASE just sit down and talk. Please. I give it 3 stars because the author is funny, has an interesting circle of friends, and has great amusing descriptions that are share worthy. But if you want a much better book with smart, interesting characters with a more mature outlook on relationships, go read Funny Story.

Unfortunately, I found Happy Place to be vapid and silly. The characters were not believable. What women in America gives up on being a doctor after finishing medical school to follow a man to Montana (of all places)! The dialogue and banter between the friends was not believable. The male protagonist was insecure and boring. The female protagonist’s thoughts and neurosis were overplayed. I would skip this one.
