The Day of the Triffids

John Wyndham · 1951

Bill Masen, a biologist who works with triffids, wakes in a London hospital with bandaged eyes the morning after a green meteor shower. Nearly everyone who watched it has gone blind, and the triffids, carnivorous plants that walk and sting, are loose. Brian Aldiss singled it out as an example of what he called the cosy catastrophe.
